Ujamaa Volunteer Experience is a non-profit organisation, established in 2011, with the purpose of changing the circumstances for individuals that are exposed to poverty or for other reasons can not have their basic human needs met. To meet our goals we hire dedicated volunteers from all over the world whom have the ambition and motivation to change the future for others. It is our belief that together we can make this world a better place, starting with Arusha, Tanzania.

We accommodate our volunteers at Ujamaa Hostel where we provide breakfast, dinner and 24 hours security. We clean and do your laundry for free. We make sure our volunteers feel safe and know their way around town. All volunteers get a free city tour and we assist you to your project until you feel comfortable going there on your own. At the end of your programme you will receive a volunteer certificate. You do not need to obtain your volunteer visa beforehand, we help you with this after your arrival.

We require a minimum of 2 weeks commitment to volunteer work from all our volunteers. This is to reduce the volunteer-tourism. You must be above 17, younger volunteers must be accompanied by parents or guardians. You should speak English well and it can be good to take a Kiswahili course while you’re here. Read about the projects below to find age restrictions and requirements for specific placements.

It is not necessary that you choose your project before coming to volunteer. After your arrival we will give you a tour of the projects you are interested in to let you speak to the managers and other volunteers, you can then chose a placement! You find more information about the different projects below. Can’t find the information you are looking for? Don’t worry, contact us and we will happily answer your questions!
